OnlyFans, Fansly and Patreon: the differences for subscribers
OnlyFans is the name everyone knows, but it is not the only platform where creators sell subscriptions. For a subscriber the differences are practical: how the price is structured, what you get for free, how you pay and where the creators you are looking for actually are. Here is the comparison, without the marketing.
The three in one paragraph each
OnlyFans. One monthly price per creator, set by her, from $0 upwards. Inside: a feed of posts, a chat, locked content sold piece by piece, tips. Cards only. Works in the browser, no app from the stores. The largest catalogue by far, and the one where Italian creators are.
Fansly. Similar mechanics, with two differences that matter to a subscriber. You can follow a creator for free and see her public timeline before deciding; and creators can set several subscription tiers, each unlocking a different amount of content. Also card-based. Smaller catalogue, more common among creators from English-speaking countries.
Patreon. Built for creators of every kind: podcasts, comics, music, cosplay, art, fitness. Multiple tiers per creator, monthly or yearly billing, cards and PayPal, apps on phones. Its rules do not allow explicit content, so profiles there are “suggestive” at most, and in Italy you will find tax added at checkout.
How the price works
- OnlyFans: one price, one level. Everything the creator marks as included is yours; locked posts and messages cost extra. Bundles of three, six or twelve months are often discounted. Details in how much OnlyFans costs.
- Fansly: tiers. A lower tier may show photos only, a higher one videos, the top one everything plus chat priority. The entry price can be low, but check what it includes.
- Patreon: tiers as well, usually described as rewards: early access, behind the scenes, a monthly print, a name in the credits. Yearly billing often comes with a discount.
On all three the creator sets the numbers. There is no “Fansly price” or “OnlyFans price”.
What is free
- OnlyFans: free profiles ($0 subscription) show open posts and allow chat; the rest is paid per piece. A card is registered even here. The Italian ones are listed on the free profiles page.
- Fansly: following is free and shows the public timeline; most of the catalogue sits behind the tiers. Some creators also offer a free tier.
- Patreon: public posts are visible to everyone; paid tiers unlock the rest. Many creators publish a lot for free and ask for support rather than selling access.
How you pay
- OnlyFans: Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, Discover, including prepaid. No PayPal, no transfer, no crypto. The practical guide is how to pay for OnlyFans in Italy.
- Fansly: cards as the standard method. Check the checkout for anything else.
- Patreon: cards and PayPal, with the amount in euro and tax shown before you confirm.
All three renew automatically unless you switch the renewal off.
Where Italian creators are
The honest map: almost all Italian creators are on OnlyFans. That is where the audience is, and where the chat economy works best. A minority keep a Fansly profile as a mirror, often with the same name, sometimes as a backup in case something goes wrong with the main one. Patreon is used by Italian creators whose work is not explicit: cosplayers, illustrators, fitness coaches, podcasters, musicians.
So if you are looking for an Italian creator, start from OnlyFans. FanGuide covers only that platform: the ranking, the cities and the categories are all OnlyFans profiles with official links.
Spotting the official profile
Because names travel across platforms, impersonation does too. Someone can open a Fansly or Patreon page with a popular OnlyFans creator’s name and photos and sell content that is not theirs. The checks:
- Start from the creator. Her Instagram, TikTok or X bio has the links she actually uses. A platform she does not link to is a platform she is probably not on.
- Same username is a hint, not proof. Impersonators pick the same name on purpose.
- Look for the link back. Real profiles usually link to the creator’s social accounts, and those accounts link to the profile. A one-way link is a warning.
- Use the search. FanGuide search finds Italian creators by name, OnlyFans username and Instagram username, and shows the official links. How to go from Instagram to the right profile is in find OnlyFans from Instagram.
Which one to choose
You do not really choose a platform; you choose a creator, and she has chosen the platform. If she is on OnlyFans, that is where you subscribe. If she offers a free follow on Fansly, use it to look around first. If what you want is to support an artist or a podcast, Patreon is built for exactly that. The mistake to avoid is subscribing to a name on a platform the creator never mentioned.
FAQ
Which of the three is cheapest?
None by definition: on all three the creator sets the price. OnlyFans has one monthly price per creator, Fansly and Patreon let her offer several tiers, so the cheapest entry on those two can be lower, but it also includes less.
Can I pay with PayPal on any of them?
On OnlyFans no, cards only. On Fansly cards are the standard too. Patreon accepts cards and PayPal. Check the checkout page: methods change, and the platform’s own page is the only reliable source.
Are Italian creators on Fansly?
A minority. Most Italian creators publish on OnlyFans; some keep a Fansly profile as a mirror or backup. Patreon is used by Italian creators for non-explicit work such as cosplay, art, fitness and podcasts.
How do I know a profile is the official one?
Follow the link from the creator’s own Instagram, TikTok or X bio. The same username on another platform is a hint, not proof: impersonators copy names. FanGuide lists only OnlyFans profiles with their official links.
